Suzuki stops selling the Fronx in New Zealand after safety concerns it received a very poor result in ANCAP crash tests. During testing, the rear seatbelt mechanism failed, which allowed the rear test dummy to move too far forward. Because of this serious issue, owners have been advised not to let anyone sit in the back seats until the problem is fixed.

The New Zealand transport agency (NZTA) has also issued a warning to people who own the Fronx. Around 1,115 cars in the country may be affected, and drivers have been told to take the safety alert seriously.

ANCAP gave the Suzuki Fronx only 1 star because it did not meet key safety standards for protecting people inside the car. According to ANCAP, the car only just managed to reach the minimum level for even that 1-star rating. The seatbelt failure is rare, but it is considered a major risk.

ANCAP’s CEO, Carla Hoorweg, said that adults and children should not travel in the back seats of the Fronx until Suzuki finds the exact cause of the failure and fixes it.
