Toyota India has entered the electric SUV space with the launch of its first all-electric model, the Urban Cruiser Ebella EV. Based on the Maruti e Vitara, this new electric SUV is aimed at the midsize EV segment.
It will compete with upcoming and existing models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and VinFast VF6. Toyota has not revealed the price yet, and it is expected to be announced after the launch of the Maruti e Vitara.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV comes with two battery options. The smaller 49kWh battery produces 144 hp and 189 Nm of torque, while the larger 61kWh battery offers 174 hp with the same torque figure.
Toyota claims a maximum range of up to 543 km on a single charge with the larger battery, as per ARAI testing. With this launch, Toyota now offers petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles in India.
In terms of design, the Ebella EV looks quite similar to the Maruti e Vitara but gets its own identity through small styling changes. At the front, it features slim, split LED DRLs and triangular headlights connected by a thick black trim.
The bumper has vertical air vents on the sides, along with rugged body cladding for a sporty SUV look. The rear door handles are neatly hidden in the C-pillar, and the taillights have a segmented design without a connecting light bar.
Toyota is offering the Ebella EV in five single-tone colours—Cafe White, Bluish Black, Gaming Grey, Sportin Red, and Enticing Silver. There are also four dual-tone options, where these colours are paired with a black roof.
Inside the cabin, the Urban Cruiser Ebella EV shares much of its layout with the e Vitara. It gets a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfort and convenience features include ventilated front seats, 12-colour ambient lighting, and a JBL sound system, giving the cabin a modern and premium feel.
On the safety front, the Ebella EV comes well equipped. It gets seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an acoustic vehicle alert system (AVAS). The top variant also includes Level 2 ADAS, with features like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
To support EV owners, Toyota has set up over 500 EV-ready service centres across India. The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV is offered with an 8-year battery warranty, along with a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) option and a 60% buyback assurance, making ownership more stress-free for buyers entering the EV space.
