Jeep is preparing to launch a brand-new SUV in India by 2028, and this upcoming model will be built on a platform developed by Tata Motors. The project is part of Stellantis’ long-term global strategy, where India will play a major role as a manufacturing and export hub for future vehicles.
The new SUV will reportedly be developed through the long-running partnership between Tata Motors and Stellantis. Both companies already work together at the Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra, where several Jeep and Tata models are manufactured. This upcoming Jeep SUV is expected to be made in India not only for the domestic market but also for export to more than 50 countries.
While Jeep has not officially revealed the name or design of the SUV yet, reports suggest it could use a modern Tata-derived architecture that focuses on lower production costs, better efficiency, and support for future electrified powertrains. The company is expected to combine Jeep’s rugged SUV identity with Tata’s cost-effective engineering and local manufacturing strength.
The upcoming SUV could be positioned in the compact or midsize SUV segment, where competition is already very strong. Depending on its final size and pricing, it may compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Mahindra XUV700, and other premium SUVs in India.
Jeep has been looking to strengthen its position in the Indian market after facing slow sales in recent years. The company currently sells models like the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee, but it has not introduced an all-new mass-market SUV for quite some time. This new project could help the brand reach a larger audience with more competitive pricing and better localization.

Reports also suggest that Stellantis plans to increase localization levels in India significantly over the next few years. This could help reduce costs and make future Jeep models more affordable compared to imported rivals. Although official details about engine options and features are still under wraps, the new Jeep SUV is expected to offer modern technology, connected car features, advanced safety systems, and possibly hybrid or electric powertrain options in the future.
With this move, Jeep and Tata Motors are taking their partnership to the next level, and the upcoming SUV could become one of the most important made-in-India global vehicles from the Stellantis group.
