Toyota Hilux Gets 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating

New-gen Toyota Hilux scores 5 stars in ANCAP crash test

The new-generation Toyota Hilux has received a 5-star safety rating from ANCAP, showing strong protection for both adults and children.

In the tests, the pickup scored 33.96 out of 40 points for adult occupant protection and 44 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, making it one of the safer vehicles in its segment.

Adult Safety Performance

In the frontal offset crash test, the Hilux provided good protection to most parts of the driver’s body. The driver’s chest and lower legs received adequate protection, while protection for the front passenger was rated good overall.

During the full-width frontal test, the driver’s neck protection was rated marginal, but the rear passenger’s neck and chest received adequate protection. All other important body areas showed good protection.

In the side impact test, the Hilux performed well, offering good protection to all critical body areas of the driver. In the side pole test, the driver’s chest had adequate protection, while other areas remained well protected.

Child Occupant Safety

The Hilux also performed strongly in child safety tests. In both frontal and side impact crashes, protection for the 10-year-old and 6-year-old child dummies was rated good, indicating solid safety for young passengers.

Pedestrian and Safety Tech Performance

For pedestrian safety, the bonnet and windscreen provided good to adequate protection to a pedestrian’s head. However, stiff windscreen pillars showed weaker results, which slightly reduced the overall pedestrian score.

The Hilux is also equipped with an Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system. This system can detect and respond to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, helping reduce the risk of accidents.

Important Note

These ANCAP safety ratings apply to all Toyota Hilux variants sold in Australia and New Zealand, except the Rugged X variant.
